Ben Braun Extends Contract - Fans Face Five More Years of Subpar Coaching For Golden Bears Men’s Basketball

CSTV is reporting that Ben Braun, the Cal men’s basketball coach for the past ten years, has signed a two-year extension to his contract to keep him there until 2011.

Braun’s record is simply not impressive. True, he has the second most career wins, with a record of 186-121, but this is not great for college basketball. Not many teams make the NCAA Tournament, especially out of the Pac-10, with more than 10 losses. Braun averages 12 losses a year, and many of those seasons have been pretty ugly. Additionally, Braun’s teams are not exactly known to have strong consistency or discipline, factors that have cost the Golden Bears big and small games alike. Finally, Braun is not a great recruiter, and star players that are recruited often fall way short of their projected potential.

Personally, I’m ready to see a change for Cal Basketball.
