Golden Bears Spay The Wildcats
The Golden Bears defense took control of Saturday’s game as Cal blanks Arizona, 28-0. Joe Ayoob threw for two touchdowns, and Marshawn Lynch ran for 107 yards and one touchdown. More importantly, Cal’s defense stepped up, stopping Arizona cold and impressing a national audience with a goal line stand in the fourth quarter that stopped the rally Wildcats cold.

As far as I am concerned, the biggest drama of this game wasn’t whether or not the Bears were going to cover the 16.5 point spread, but Chancellor Birgeneau’s refusal to crowd surf. He had been hanging out with a few friends and me during the third quarter, and when Cal scored it’s third touchdown, we went to lift him up. He shook his head no, saying “I have to draw the line somewhere.” As far as I am concerned, if Chancellor Birgeneau is going to continue to be “part of the campus community”, and watch football games from the student section, he is obliged to crowd surf at least once. He certainly isn’ t too large to go up; I have a few pounds on Chancellor Birgeneau, and I’ve been up a few times.
