***NEWSFLASH*** Fraternity Evacuated After Structural Collapse
Earlier this evening, Berkeley fire and police crews responded to a fire alarm at the Berkeley (Nu) chapter house of Phi Kappa Tau on Piedmont Avenue, where residents and guests were evacuating following a significant structural collapse inside the house.
Eyewitness reports collected outside the house confirmed that part of the ceiling between the first and second floors fell through to the floor below. No ambulances were on the scene, and no major injuries were immediately apparent. Individuals on the scene were speculating that the house would be potentially closed through the entirety of the semester. The cause of the collapse is unknown at this time.
Rooms in the house were dark, suggesting that power had been cut off to the property, and a utility truck was parked next to the house as individuals with suitcases walked towards other residences in the Southside area. We at CalStuff hope everybody at Phi Tau is alright, and that everyone that is displaced has found new digs for the time being.
