People Still in a Tizzy over Stadium Plans

The city of Berkeley has sued Cal over the plans for Memorial Stadium. Now the university has three lawsuits stacked against it along with hippies still living in the trees. The lawsuits (from the city, the Panoramic Hills Neighborhood Association, and the Save the Oaks folks) cite violations of “seismic-safety and environmental laws.” The city is trying to obtain a temporary restraining order against construction, which starts in March.

I’m really so over this issue. You know that the stadium plans are going to be realized and that construction is going to happen eventually. Whatever. Cut down the damn trees. I’m going to have so much fun living ten feet away from construction madness.

  1. Stanford, in the meantime quietly built its $90 M stadium in 6 months. And their planning started AFTER ours.

Thanks, tree dwelling hippies and nonsensical public-school bureaucracy.

  2. Using the word ‘hippie’ reveals a lack of education that reflects the myth that UC berkeley kids are ‘intelligent’ en masse.

There are few old tress left and we should preserve any that do not block essential needs for survival.

Take a drive up to Humboldt, drive off the 101 (loggers leave the big trees next to the highway intact for a reason) and see, on the smaller mountain roads, what clearcutting (nmon-selective harvesting/cutting down as in this case) does to soil, ecosystems, rivers, etc.

Point is: we are polluting the earth with over development and every old tree counts for far more than it did before we industrialized.

Trees, plants, etc clean the air and our culture needs to put trees before development asap. Unless we want to become extinct in 30-50 years (random ballpark). In 20 years we may have water wars because of clearcutting up north combined with agribiz in the valley. Turn off your tv and look something up on your own.

  4. f***ing the trees is embarrassing at best, painful at worst.

  5. I think we should cut down all of the oak trees, and grow marijuana next to the stadium. Then, the university could lower student fees by selling joints to people going to football games. Also, affirmative action is a hate crime against whites/Asians.

  6. Hemp trees (male marijuana - un-smokeable) are an excellent renewable fiber/paper/nutrition(seeds) source, and they may hold soil decently if allowed to grow large.

If you follow the rules, work hard, and kiss ass, you can get into berkeley even if you are white /and/ have mediocre creative intelligence. I agree, though, that affirmative action is the wrong approach - more education, along with a better distribution of wealth, will counter the low representation from poorer ethnic groups.

If you look up how wealth has been concentrating in the US, it will make you angry unless you are selfish and believe humans can exist without sharing resources.

  8. If you follow the rules, work hard, and kiss ass, you can get into berkeley even if you are black or Latino / and / have less creative intelligence than whites and Asians.
