Mayor Tells Berkeley Homeless to Go Home

Berkeley is well known for being a haven for the homeless. Mayor Tom Bates explains that the homeless can get “three meals a day, seven days a week in Berkeley.” Now, the mayor has announced a move to help these people “out of homelessness and into society.” He has taken his initiative to the Association of Bay Area Governments to create a community around this issue.

Mayor Bates hopes to help open a detox facility in Oakland in March 2007 for the homeless population.

I thought the hobos were the symbol of the Berkeley city! No more crazy people talking to themselves (okay, we still have a few professors and some students)? We will be left with unshaken coffee cups of change and a Telegraph devoid of that pervasive rank B.O. stench.

Next you’ll be telling me that Crazy Hat Lady with the blue lipstick has moved shop.

  1. I pray that your mayor sticks to his guns and works on achieving his “out of homelessness and into society.” statement.

  7. anon54… if you want her precise opinions on israel you should go ask her. she does speak english (among her many languages).

anyway, yes, she is what i would consider a fanatic, since her opinions seem based in an affinity for israel that she can’t really rationalize. that would also be the dictionary definition of fanaticism, but you can look it up and double check if you need to.

hint: you do (need to check).

bonus hint: many of the rest of Cal’s armchair e-defenders of israel would also do well to check into the definition of fanaticism.

  9. haha, mano, there are so many pro-palestinian fanatics in Berkeley (you included), why do you even go there? check out the definition and apply it to your pals in SJP. they seem to have this affinity to arab suicide bombers that they just cannot rationalize.
