Liveblogging the Ratto v. Vakil Hearing

Ratto is doing his hearing, so I’m going to write as we go.

*SA makes 4 objections to dismiss the charges… all are overruled.

*Bret Manley is arguing for Suken, since Suken is out of the country. I kind of missed the Kevin Bacon lookalike myself…

*SA objects to the inclusion of the numerous witness affadavits… (at this point it becomes clear that if SA appeals this to a federal court, they may have some standing, but that is for another time). Most of these affadavits are allowed to stay.

*There is a discussion about “magic chalk” and how long it lasts compared to regular chalk. My guess? They both last longer than a day.

*Opening argument has been given with rebuttal - 1015 pm. Half way there.

*1 of Andy’s charges has been dismissed - Suken is no longer being considered a litigant, but 3 charges still remain against him.

*Defense has been given, and rebuttal is being given. I can’t believe this has been going on for 5 hours.

*”Spending time in the dorms is helpful to getting elected.” - Bret Manley. Other choice quotes from Bret Manley:

“Chalking can be harmful for a campaign.”

“I do not believe chalking is particularly useful for a campaign.”

*11:49 PM - Judicial Council questions the SA witnesses. Witnesses have been warned several times not to be evasive. Andy says, “This hearing jumped the shark a while ago.”

Fuck. It’s midnight already. I have a job interview tomorrow morning…

*12:10 - Bret Manley publicly suggests anti-SA witnesses are lying, then recants when the Judicial Council asks for any proof.

OK - I give up. It’s 6 hours in, the hearing has adjourned, I’m going to bed. My prediction: nothing will come of this. I’ve said it from the beginning. Anyway, ciao.

  1. If Magic Chalk is anywhere near as frustrating as those Magic Eye pictures then I want nothing to do with Student Action OR this hearing!

  2. pick up the pace narodick, I’m forgetting what’s happening and need it written before me

  3. I just walked by the courtroom about 15 minutes ago. Andy’s rocking a nice haircut.

  4. Objection! Haircut irrelevant!

    Comment by John — June 7, 2006 @ 9:16 pm

  5. I think the haircut is relevant: Andy wasn’t able to buy any hairspray because SA used it all on the chalk!

  6. I love you guys…

  8. Why did the hearing jump said shark?

  9. What does it mean that Suken Vakil was no longer being considered a litigant but three charges remained against him? I don’t speak legalese, LOL.

  10. so what was the outcome?

    Comment by chet (CEO) — June 8, 2006 @ 9:51 am

  11. If Andy’s haircut leaves Phoenix on a train heading to Denver at 4:15 heading 45 mph and Suken Vakil’s pathological lying habit leaves Antarctice on a steamboat heading (inexplicably) for Denver at 22 mph, what time does this hearing end?

    Comment by John — June 8, 2006 @ 10:30 am

  12. By the way, the Wikipedia entry on “jumping the shark” is lovely.

  13. goddammit john, you are like one of those horrible comedians who is up there on stage tanking, and I am the person in the audience grinding my teeth out of embarrassment for you. i don’t even know you, but are you this unfunny in real life?

  14. Actually, you’re more like the guy in the back who yells out “You suck” and then hides behind a table when people look to see who said it.

  15. Says the man who’s real name is nowhere on his blog that whines and rags on everyone.

  16. I find John’s body of comments comical.

And if you’ve paid attention, you’d know Beetle’s name.
