Candidate’s Meeting Postponed (Election Troubles Already?)

I just received the following e-mail from Elections Council Chair Jessica Wren:

I am writing to let you all know that the Candidate’s meeting has been moved to Tuesday April 11, 2006 from 7 - 9pm . The location will be announced in a separate email within the next two days.

As you all begin campaigning, I urge you to consult the ASUC Constitution Elections Bylaws for campaign guidelines and regulations, available at http://election.asuc.org.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this means that campaigning will begin before Party slates have been finalized. Or candidates have their numbers. It also means that campaigning will begin before the election officials have had a chance to answer questions from the candidates (and last year there were numerous ambiguities that couldn’t be resolved into the various officials rendered a ruling). Not to mention, what with all the election snafus so far, it strikes me as extremely worrisome that a simple meeting like this would need to be postponed.

P.S. Plus, what’s up with this from the ASUC election website, “More information on Polling Locations, Voting Dates & Hours, and possible Online Voting to come soon!”

  4. Perhaps CalSERVE did something good. If everyone runs unopposed, no one will take SA seriously. There’s no competition. I hoep voter turnout is like 15-20%

  5. but u cannot take an organization who cannot slate candidates seriously…like if they cannot even put up a slate how can they run offices or represent students in a clear way.

  6. anon, what are you talking about? Be explicit. CalSERVE is running a slate, just not an executive slate. They have been around since 1984, they are not clueless.
