Spam on Senior Listserve Makes the News

The Oakland Tribune has an article about all the spam messages being sent to the senior_spirit e-mail list.
Here is the gist of what happened, from the article:

In a matter of hours this week, nay, mere minutes, a commonplace e-mail faux pas on a UC Berkeley senior-class listserve - in which some dorky student tried to unsubscribe from the list and instead responded to a few hundred people - snowballed with ensuing “Reply all'’ messages flying through the e-mail system like so many Viagra scams, with everyone either trying to unsubscribe or making sarcastic comments about the whole thing to the point of being annoying (which is typical), then to being kind of funny (also typical).

Although I didn’t get any of these e-mails myself, I’m pretty certain that it wasn’t Reply All that was being used, but people sending e-mails to a listserve that went to a bunch of other people.
Here is a link to two of the online stores (one and two) selling unsubscribe me clothes, and here is the facebook group.
