Golden Bears Spay The Wildcats

The Golden Bears defense took control of Saturday’s game as Cal blanks Arizona, 28-0. Joe Ayoob threw for two touchdowns, and Marshawn Lynch ran for 107 yards and one touchdown. More importantly, Cal’s defense stepped up, stopping Arizona cold and impressing a national audience with a goal line stand in the fourth quarter that stopped the rally Wildcats cold.

ESPN Recap

As far as I am concerned, the biggest drama of this game wasn’t whether or not the Bears were going to cover the 16.5 point spread, but Chancellor Birgeneau’s refusal to crowd surf. He had been hanging out with a few friends and me during the third quarter, and when Cal scored it’s third touchdown, we went to lift him up. He shook his head no, saying “I have to draw the line somewhere.” As far as I am concerned, if Chancellor Birgeneau is going to continue to be “part of the campus community”, and watch football games from the student section, he is obliged to crowd surf at least once. He certainly isn’ t too large to go up; I have a few pounds on Chancellor Birgeneau, and I’ve been up a few times.

  1. I hope you are not serious…yeah Chancellor B. was right not to do that….I think we should be proud he came to the game to meet students.

    Good Job Chancellor B.

  5. Please do not expect the Chancellor to crowd surf. His presence in the student section is enough. Besides, Ben you were obviously to heavy this Sat. people couldnt pick you up, and fell right in. Dont deny it now. I saw it all…hahahah

  6. THE GOAL LINE STAND WAS IN THE THIRD QUARTER.

Jesus Christ, Ben, do you even watch these games?

  7. Learn the difference between “it’s” (it is) and “its” (possessive).

The chancellor should have been working on the endowment or fundraising rather than hanging out at the ball game.

  8. Hanging out at the ball game might help with fundraising.

  10. Of course I watch the games. I was pretty drunk though, so I’m glad I even got the half right.

  11. What a missed opportunity!!

Here’s what should have gone down:

“Chancellor you need to crowd surf right now.”
“No i have to draw the line somewhere.”
“Chancellor, do you know who we are?”
    “No, why?”

    *GRAB* *TOSS*

and then before he finishes, run and tell one of the officials so they can get it on the jumbotron. Talk about PR!
