1 Arrest in Shooting, 1 Suspect at Large

The Bay City News has the details:

Berkeley police today arrested one man suspected in the Sunday homicide of Berkeley High School graduate and Dartmouth College student Meleia Willis-Starbuck, and have identified another suspect.

The suspects have been identified as 20-year-old Christopher Larry Wilson Jr. of Berkeley and 21-year-old Christopher Lester Hollis of Hayward, according to the Police Department.

Based on leads developed in their investigation of the fatal shooting that took place near College Avenue and Dwight Way around 2 a.m., police report that search warrants were served today at both the Wilson and Hollis residences.

Arrest warrants have also been obtained for both men, police report.

Shortly after police officers served the search warrants, Wilson reportedly came to the Police Department accompanied by his attorney and was arrested for his alleged role in the shooting.

Hollis, who is still outstanding, has been identified as the shooting suspect in the case, police report.

Police describe Hollis as being an African-American man, about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build and a short hairstyle. He is considered armed and dangerous, according to police.

Anyone with information about Hollis is urged to contact the Police Department’s Homicide Detail at (510) 981-5741 or e-mail tips to police@ci.berkeley.ca.us.

Anyone who sees Hollis is also urged not to approach him directly but to call 911 immediately, police officials said.

The comments from the memorial thread were left at the memorial earlier today. With a suspect in custody, there should be information soon on what may have motivated the shooting and who the target was.

    The shooter was a close friend of the victim. She had called him shortly before the shooting, during the argument with the Cal students.
