Tree previously held for ransom returned to traffic stop
In case you were wondering what happened to that tree that taken from a traffic circle and held for ransom (see Daily Cal article), it was returned, with the thief still unknown.
From Berkeley Daily Planet:
[The owner] Karl Reeh woke up Saturday to find his six-foot, 15-year-old Bald Cypress stationed outside his fence…
The theft of the tree made Reeh, a 71-year-old gardener and the president of the LeConte Neighborhood Association, a minor celebrity. His plight was featured on several television news reports and National Public Radio, and NBC’s The Today Show inquired about a possible story.

The punchline is that he’s putting it back into a traffic circle, I think.

The East Bay Daily News has done a good job of covering this exceptional local story. Unfortunately, they are not online.
But yes, he’s going to put it back up in the traffic circle, much to the dismay of and danger to neighbors, drivers and pedestrians, as it blocks vision.

While normally I’d agree about it being a danger, in the spirit of “screw you,” that kind of behavior has to be endorsed.
