Beetle Beat has another set of awards called the Beetle Beatties, awarding some of the miststeps and misspeaks of the year. Examples include:
Most nonsensical protest
(I don’t really feel like looking so let’s take the protest Collonge was talking about: If we walk far enough, our student fees will go down. Anyway, this category is for those protests which don’t quite seem to match their cause.)Biggest overstatement
(The immediate comment that sprung to mind was one from Berkeley High African-American studies teacher Robert McKnight, on budget cuts rearranging the African-American studies department: “I think it’s the manifestation of white supremacy at its zenith.”)
